Digital divide sidelines the Kakholwane community

Kakholwane community members are left behind since mobile network is still a major problem in their area. Kakholwane is situated in the Shiselweni region of Swaziland. MTN as a major mobile network provider in Swaziland  has neglected  this community. Swazi MTN was established in 1998 where they were the only mobile network provider in the country. For over 24 years since MTN launched mobile network, they are failing to provide national coverage. Communication is still a major challenge in Kakholwane. They can’t call their friends and family members who are away. When there is an emergency or accidents, fire at home or medical emergency, a family member or someone is expected to inform the emergency numbers and relatives of that individual. Students in this area can’t do research  since there is no internet. This makes students who will be doing external exams fail dismally. This community is also sidelined from major updates nd current affairs due to absence of internet. Since mobile phones have become a necessity for human beings, mobile network is also essential.
