In Zimbabwe, like in many other countries, girls face numerous challenges that hinder their safety and well-being. From gender-based violence to lack of access to education and healthcare, the obstacles that girls face are numerous and complex. However, one key factor that can help address these challenges is often overlooked: peace creation. According to statistics, Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of gender-based violence in the world, with an estimated one in three women experiencing physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for action to create a safe environment for girls in Zimbabwe.

One effective way to address this issue is by directing funding towards peace creation initiatives. By investing in programs that promote peace and conflict resolution, donors and civil society organizations (CSOs) can help create a safer environment for girls in Zimbabwe. These programs can help address the root causes of violence and conflict, and empower girls to lead safe and fulfilling lives. Countries like Rwanda and Colombia have successfully implemented similar strategies, with positive results. In Rwanda, for example, the government has invested in peace education programs that have helped reduce violence and promote gender equality. In Colombia, peacebuilding initiatives have helped create a safer environment for girls and women, leading to improved access to education and healthcare.

By drawing from other countries and directing funding towards peace creation, Zimbabwe can create a safer environment for girls and address the root causes of gender-based violence. Donors and CSOs must prioritize peacebuilding initiatives to ensure that girls in Zimbabwe can live free from violence and discrimination. It is time to recognize the importance of peace creation in fostering a safe environment for girls in Zimbabwe. By investing in programs that promote peace and conflict resolution, donors and CSOs can help address the root causes of violence and create a brighter future for girls in Zimbabwe. Let us work together to create a world where every girl can thrive and reach her full potential.
