Mutare residents bemoan poor road rehabilitation

Citizens had high hopes to see a drastic improvement in road maintenance after Mutare City Council purchased a Cat Grader which was delivered at Civic Centre on 3 November 2021. Although the council is now using new equipment for road maintenance, residents have not yet witnessed a significant change. As we approach the rainy season both motorist and pedestrians will find it difficult to use roads and proper attention is required. Roads both in residential areas and the major ones are in a dilapidated state. Council instead of doing a complete job, they are only gradding and not even attempting to put gravel.

Mutare City is in great distress as we have challenges of water and sanitation. This means that the local authority must use its meager resources with effectively and efficiently. There is no reason for Council to deploy resources into roads rehabilitation without rehabilitating the same roads.

Council should utilise the few resources they have to do a complete job rather than wasting diseal and after two months they come again to rehabilitate the same roads. We are calling for a genuine devolution process, if we are to develop as a city. If devolution funds are disbursed, council should take charge nd be allowed to use the same resources towards roads rehabilitation.
