Coal mining companies exploiting communities with impunity in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. The coal mining companies are taking advantage of vulnerable communities in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province of South Africa. In Newcastle, KZN, people wake up in the morning to find that the mining operations are being done on their land. One of the women could be seen showing the damage on her land as a result of mining activities she did not even allow to happen on her land. There has been intense victimization of the people that gained momentum from 1st April 2019 in the area. Activists in the community and the people who are trying to protect their land have been harassed and even arrested by the police. If the governments entities are used to protect mining companies and their interests, then, who is to protect the rights of communities and the victimized people? This is really a sad state of affairs
