Last week, the President of South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa banned the sale of alcohol as one of the measures to control public gathering in the wake of a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this bieng in the best interest of the public’s health, the majority have vowed to continue buying alcohol sold illegally. This is despite the fact that it will be sold at exorbitant prices. All people want is to drink beer and since the announcement of the ban, some people are still drinking it as they normally do. The disregard of national regulations undermines national efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, people continue to hold parties defying the Covid-19 regulations announced by the President. There is a street party that took place at Mohokare street in Diepkloof Zone 4 Soweto Gauteng. Residents attended the party in large numbers and did not give the police a chance to stop the event taking place, members of community who attended refused to switch of the sound system then the clash begin and no arrests were made.
