Residents of Ward 3 and Ward 4 in Bulawayo have expressed concern over water shortages suffered in the previous week.
The Bulawayo City Council reported that they had experienced power outages that led to inability of the Tuli and Hillside reservoirs to pump water to the above-mentioned community wards. However, even after they issued a statement on the 4th of November 2021, announcing the resumption of water supply on the 6th of November, on the 8th of November residents saw another phase of water rationing.
Residents who do not have water tanks and boreholes in their yards have resorted to storing water in drums, buckets and other containers. However, when the stored water runs out, they have either carried water from their workplaces going home whilst some have to buy borehole water from nearby houses at ZWL 20 for 20 liters.
Suggestions for the City Council to start using sustainable renewable energy to pump water have come in through Ward WhatsApp groups directed towards the Councillor. Meanwhile the nightmare of dry water taps continues, posing an imminent threat to the health of citizens amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
